With “Hungry … Matthew 5:6” as its theme for 2004, the youth ministry of WPC furthered its identity as unblur@wpc with many different events and programs designed to encourage students and their families as they “Focus on Christ.” “Each student has a place at WPC,” according to director Josh Barron. “We desire not only to be a ministry to students, but a ministry of students as well.” Youth continued to embrace this philosophy of ministry by engaging in our monthly service opportunities, and especially on our two annual mission trips – one to Belize, Central America, and one to Waco, Texas. As they served, they learned experientially about the difference between having an intellectual faith, and living out their faith; which is key to developing mature Christian disciples who are well equipped to fulfill Christ’s command to “go into all the world.” Equipping these disciples took place most effectively in one-on-one mentoring and small group sessions, where safety and belonging are best communicated among the participants in a committed way that fosters authentic long-term relationships. Thanks to the college-age volunteers for their consistently sacrificial efforts to build God’s Kingdom by serving with our students. The youth ministry was pleased to welcome three older youth and six communicants into the membership of WPC – eager to help communicate effectively the marks of a healthy faith that contribute so valuably to improving the overall health of the church membership: discipleship, evangelism, worship, fellowship, and serving. Elder Todd McKay facilitated the development of an Adult Leadership Team, whose primary goals were to oversee and undertake the major monthly events of the ministry while acting as a liaison to parents and the session, and as a sounding board for the director. Many thanks are due him and the members of the Unblur Adult Leadership Team for their wisdom and perseverance through Josh’s sophomore year as Director of Student Ministries.
